Whitney

Jack Russell Terrier · Female · Young · 1 year

Uncertain little lady wants to explore everything the world has to offer. Meet our 1-year-old girl Whitney. She hasn't had an easy start, but she's beginning to discover the world. This makes her a bit unsure in new situations sometimes. Step by step, we see her blossoming. Once Whitney knows you, she's eager to be with you. She jumps onto your lap and prefers to snuggle in your arms, where she feels safe. We're slowly building up walks, and this goes better if another dog accompanies her. That's why we prefer to place her with a stable dog. So she learns that the world doesn't have to be so daunting, and if she does feel unsafe, she has a companion who can offer support. Additionally, she really enjoys playing with other dogs. The only things still needing attention are staying at home, basic commands, and the walks. Thankfully, Whitney finds it very enjoyable to learn, but this does require time and patience. With the right guidance, her confidence will grow a little bit every day. We prefer to place Whitney in a quiet environment with people who have experience with uncertain dogs. Children are not placed with Whitney. Are you interested in this sweet girl and do you have all the time, patience, and love for her? Then get in touch via our shelter and mention in your motivation: Sensitive, eager to learn, and brave when needed. Affectionate girl wants to be with you.

About Whitney

What life with Whitney looks like

Whitney is a medium-sized young adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dierentehuis in Netherlands.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Whitney, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Whitney?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Whitney on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Whitney if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Whitney already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Whitney isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Whitney and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
