Willi

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Willi (born 02/2024) is looking for a new home with people who enjoy an active, attentive dog and who can give him the guidance he needs through patience, time, and loving consistency. This handsome herding dog mix likes being with his people, enjoys cuddle sessions, and loves long walks. At the same time, he has a mind of his own and, as is typical for his breed, brings a good measure of watchfulness. Willi likes to keep an eye on his property and watches his surroundings attentively. Outdoors, he most enjoys being out on long walks, but shared cuddle time is a must as well. He rarely uses his dog bed; the sofa or the floor clearly suit him better. In his previous family, Willi lived together with an older dog. However, he does not get along with every dog he meets. When encountering other dogs on the leash, he quickly becomes loud and currently has difficulty controlling himself. His leash manners and reliably following commands also still need further practice. Willi is an active, attentive dog who, in addition to long walks, needs a task. Whether mantrailing, another form of scent work, or (if he is suited and the opportunity exists) herding work, meaningful activity could help him put his abilities to use and grow into a good team with his people. Above all, he needs clear direction, reliable routines, and people who can give him security and guidance. Attending a good dog training school or being accompanied by an experienced trainer would therefore be advisable. Willi should not live in a home with cats. How he reacts to small children cannot yet be determined with certainty, since he has so far lived mainly with teenagers and adults. A home without small children would therefore be the most suitable choice. So far, Willi has only known being left alone in the company of a second dog. Whether and how he can stay home alone entirely by himself must be practiced with him gradually, step by step. At nine months old, Willi broke his right hind leg. A plate was inserted, which remains in the leg. In daily life, it does not appear to restrict him significantly. Only after very wild romping can he occasionally limp for a short time. For health reasons, his current family is no longer able to meet his needs as they would wish. Willi needs people who can offer him the necessary stability, time, and exercise. That is why a new home is being sought for him, where his needs can be better met. Willi would ideally suit dog-experienced people who enjoy being outdoors, offer him clear structure, and patiently accompany him on his continued journey. A rural setting with ample space and opportunities for lovely walks would be ideal. Willi is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be placed with a protection contract following a positive preliminary check. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. provides only placement assistance in Willi's case. If you are seriously interested, please fill out the contact form; we will forward the information to his current owners.

Willi (geb. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. leistet im Fall Willi lediglich Vermittlungshilfe.

About Willi

What life with Willi looks like

Willi is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Willi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Willi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Willi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Willi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Willi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Willi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Willi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
