Winston

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Winston is a friendly, gentle, cautious and people-oriented dog. Update April 2026: Winston has settled well into his foster home and shows himself to be cautious but not fearful. He views new impressions calmly and attentively at first. His foster mother now greets him with a joyfully wagging tail. It is clear how much he enjoys being around familiar people. He is a gentle and somewhat reserved dog, but can also show his playful side. Winston gets along very well with other dogs, which is why an existing first dog in his future home would be a nice support for him. He enjoys walks and already walks well on a leash. We are looking for a quiet home in rural surroundings for Winston as the bustling city life would probably be too much for him. Winston can be visited and met in person. He is looking forward to finding his people. Nadja and Winston were brought to us with their mother Matka. Their mother was not in good condition, and we did not want to leave her on the street like that. Everyone was very anxious in the first few days and hid when we came near them. It seems that humans have left their mark on their souls. Winston is still very uncertain and does not trust people. He lets himself be touched and taken up, but he doesn't enjoy it. He has no problems with other dogs and really warms up to them then. He plays, frolics and can be very exuberant. He is with other dogs in the guest house and learns about life in a home there. He even barks on his own now and hasn't made it into the house at night so far. Daily practice is being done so that he gets used to it and gains more confidence. A home with dog experience, lots of patience and understanding with a confident first dog would be ideal for Winston. They are all vaccinated, chipped and have an EU passport. They are checked for age-appropriate diseases in the Mediterranean region. See the information on our homepage. Every dog placed makes room for another dog from the street who must live their lives hungry and emaciated.

AUFENTHALTSORT

About Winston

What life with Winston looks like

Winston is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. in Greece.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Winston, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Winston?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Winston on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Winston if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Winston already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Winston isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Winston and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
