Adopt Xando

German Shepherd · Male · Senior · 9 years

Xando ID No.: 1036939 Breed: German Shepherd mix Age: approx. 11/2016 Gender: male Shoulder height: approx. 65 cm Neutered: Yes Location: Marbella (Spain) Inquiry form Xando – proud senior German Shepherd seeks a home that finally deserves him Xando (*approx. 11/2016, approx. 65 cm) is a stunning "old-school" German Shepherd with a straight back, powerful build, and long black-and-tan coat. He is currently at our partner shelter, Triple A Marbella (Spain), where he eagerly awaits people who truly appreciate him. Xando was found by the police—emaciated and with poor skin condition on his face—but he had a microchip. When the registered owner was contacted, it turned out he lived in a caravan and simply didn’t want Xando back. And so, this loyal senior was simply abandoned. Yet Xando hasn’t lost his zest for life. For his age, he’s remarkably active, loves walks, and enjoys going on little adventures around the animal shelter with our volunteers. However, due to the large number of dogs at the shelter, he shows signs of stress there. As soon as he leaves the premises, his true personality shines through: he becomes calm, focused, walks relaxed on the leash, and thoroughly enjoys your shared time together. Xando clearly played a lot of fetch in his earlier life—he absolutely adores balls! However, for his aging joints, we’d prefer gentler activities: scent games, digging, walks on sand, or even swimming would be much healthier and just as enjoyable for this clever male dog. With people, Xando is a loving, affectionate companion. He enjoys being petted, reliably comes when called, and happily works alongside humans. He’s also highly food-motivated—a huge advantage for training, bonding, and settling into his new home. Because Xando sometimes takes treats a bit too enthusiastically and is generally quite energetic, we’re looking for a home without small children. Other dogs also stress him out at the animal shelter, so ideally he should live as the only dog. A calm, friendly female dog might possibly be an option—our team at the animal shelter would of course test this beforehand. We hope to find Xando people who appreciate his intelligence, loyalty, and energy, and who will give him the care he has deserved his entire life. Xando is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and holds an EU pet passport. For travel arrangements, he has been tested for Mediterranean diseases and has been dewormed and treated for fleas. About Xando

What life with Xando looks like

Xando is a large senior german shepherd dog waiting at Helfende Hände e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Xando, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Xando?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Helfende Hände e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Xando on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Xando if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Helfende Hände e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Xando already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Xando isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Helfende Hände e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Xando and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
