Xenia

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Age: Born around January 2023. Gender: Female. Neutered: Yes Character: Shy, but always friendly, very compatible with other animals Size: Approximately 45 cm In shelter since: August 2023 Related: Sister Lotte May I introduce myself? My name is Xenia. I am not the one who immediately runs to you when you call. I am more the one who watches from a distance – cautiously, but with pricked ears and a curious look. I observe before I dare to approach. I live at our shelter, together with many other dogs and my sister. We were found as young puppies alone on the street – lost, hungry, and without shelter. Fortunately, we were saved. But in the same month, something happened that scared us all deeply: A tornado swept through the shelter in the middle of the night. The storm tore the roofs from the kennels, hail pelted down, it was loud and chaotic – we dogs were terrified. My kennel was also severely damaged, and my sister and I escaped into the dark, stormy night. For several days, we wandered around. And do you know what happened then? We came back. On our own initiative. We found our way back to the shelter, back to the people. This perhaps best shows that despite all my caution, I seek proximity and the desire to belong. Today, I am firmly part of the shelter group in the middle of the run. In the pack, I am happy to be right in the middle. I run with the others, move safely among them, and enjoy the closeness of my fellow animals. I am social and friendly – a quiet presence rather than a loud presence. With people, I still struggle. I am cautious, prefer to keep a little distance. But I am not panicky – rather soft and hesitant. If you let me, I come closer slowly. I wish so much to understand that cuddles can be beautiful. That proximity is not threatening but warm and good. And even if I do not understand everything yet: I remain always kind – even when touched. What I wish for? A home with peace, patience, and a sensitive heart. People who do not rush me but let me go my own way. I know it will take time – but I bring the most important thing: the wish to fit in. And who knows – maybe one day I will be the female dog who sits quietly by your side and warms your heart without many words. With even more feeling. If you are interested in Xenia, please fill out our interest form (), or write us an email or a message on Facebook. Xenia is ready to travel and can travel to Germany with the next transport. Our dogs travel legally with Traces. Traces refers to the database system that monitors the entire animal transport within the EU. The dogs travel neutered (if old enough), vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed, and have an EU passport. Additionally, for dogs over 12 months of age, a rapid test for the following Mediterranean diseases is conducted before travel arrangements: Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Dirofilariasis, and leishmaniasis. Frank B. has taken the paternity for Xenia and thus ensures a full belly. Many thanks on behalf of the dogs!

Steckbrief Alter: ca. im Januar 2023 geboren. Geschlecht: weiblich. Und weißt du, was dann passierte? Was ich mir wünsche?

About Xenia

What life with Xenia looks like

Xenia is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Seelen für Seelchen e.V. in Alfter.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Xenia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Xenia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Seelen für Seelchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Xenia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Xenia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Seelen für Seelchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Xenia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Xenia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Seelen für Seelchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Xenia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
