Adopt Yoko

Chihuahua · Male · Young · 2 years

Yoko and Yuke lived previously with a family of two children. After the breakup of the couple, there was no longer enough time to take care of the two dogs. Therefore, the family decided to bring the dogs to Melampo. Both dogs show themselves to be highly people-oriented, loving, and cuddly at the animal shelter. They actively seek the company of humans and greatly enjoy cuddles and attention. Playing is also one of their favorite activities, and they are very happy about a belly rub. Yoko is especially trusting and confident, while Yuke is a bit more nervous, but both are not afraid. The two are very closely bonded and rely heavily on each other. A shared home would therefore be particularly nice. Since this is not always possible, they will also be rehomed individually for adoption. They get along well with other dogs and move around comfortably in the large group at the shelter. They are already used to walking on a leash and go for walks calmly. They also handle car rides calmly and without fuss. Both have tested negative for Mediterranean diseases at the vet. Yoko should not be rehomed with cats. Yoko and Yuke are two very friendly, affectionate dogs who will surely adapt well to a new home with a bit of time and affection. Just because they have already lived in a family, they are certainly looking forward to leaving the shelter routine behind. Maybe a shared home will even work out, our fingers are crossed!

About Yoko

What life with Yoko looks like

Yoko is a young adult chihuahua dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Yoko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Yoko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Yoko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Yoko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Yoko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Yoko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Yoko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
