adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Yukon was rescued at the last minute from the public shelter and placed in a pension. He hadn't been in the shelter for long, but he couldn't cope with the conditions there; he severely injured himself and destroyed any furniture in his pen. Upon arriving at the pension, he turned around 180 degrees and became a completely different dog. Yukon is estimated to be around 5-6 years old and has a medium size of 53 cm, but he is currently still a bit thin and needs to gain some weight, at which point he will likely put on a few kilos. Yukon is very friendly with people, enjoys attention, and is clingy. Terrier-type, he brings a high energy level with him and requires both physical and mental stimulation. There is still a small obstacle to overcome; based on his appearance, we suspect that he could be a mix with an American Staffordshire Terrier, and thus Yukon is a so-called listed dog. This means he falls into category 1 on the Rasseliste in Germany, and it is not allowed for us to send him back to Germany. Therefore, we are looking for a home for him in Austria, Switzerland (not allowed in all cantons), Liechtenstein, or wherever the sweet male dog will be welcomed and can live an appropriate life. We are looking for dog-experienced people for our Yukon, and it would be even better if they are familiar with this breed. Yukon will travel neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas to his new home. Many thanks to Julia H.! You have given Yukon his name! Thank you also to Annette L.-E.! You are helping Yukon with a monthly sponsorship! As of: 21.12.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Vielen Dank Julia H.! Du hast Yukon seinen Namen geschenkt! Danke auch an Annette L.-E.,.! Du hilfst Yukon mit einer monatlichen Patenschaft! Stand: 24.06.2026

About Yukon

What life with Yukon looks like

Yukon is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Yukon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Yukon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Yukon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Yukon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Yukon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Yukon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Yukon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
