Zak

Male · Young · 1 year

Zak is a young, fun-loving boy with lots of enthusiasm and a real zest for life. He enjoys being around his people, getting out for walks and exploring the world around him. He's looking for a family who will keep his clever brain occupied with training, enrichment and adventures, while also giving him time to settle into his new home. If you're looking for a handsome, playful and intelligent companion who is ready to learn and have lots of fun, Zak could be the boy for you! Meet Zak, our handsome 1-year-and-7-month-old German Shepherd! Zak is currently loving life in foster with his wonderful foster carers, who are taking great care of him while he waits for his forever home. Zak can live with secondary school-aged children and needs to be the only dog or pet in the home, although he can have doggy friends out and about. He knows his basic commands and loves to learn, so he'd really enjoy some fun training sessions and extra enrichment to keep his clever mind busy. A secure private garden would be lovely for Zak to play in, but isn't essential as long as he gets all the exercise and fun he needs. He can currently be left for around 1–4 hours, although we'd still recommend building this up gradually while he settles in.

About Zak

What life with Zak looks like

Zak is a young adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Salisbury in Newton Tony.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zak, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zak?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Salisbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zak on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zak if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Salisbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zak already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zak isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Salisbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zak and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
