Zappa

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 7 years

Zappa, a 7-year-old cat, was found by the animal ambulance with his paw in his arm after being on the streets for some time. Who would have thought he'd be happy to leave the streets and sit up high and dry? Zappa was completely overwhelmed by the shelter and very scared of everything and everyone. Fortunately, he is now more accustomed and now that he can run loose in the space, we see a very different cat. He is less afraid and protected freedom does him good. Zapp loves delicious food and can be persuaded to come closer with it. With much practice, it should be possible to make him a cuddly cat. However, it's difficult to say how much of a lap cat he is. We are therefore looking for experienced new owners who will work with him and give him time to get used to things at his own pace. All new things and people will remain exciting in the beginning. For these reasons, children or a desire for children do not fit into his picture. A household of 1 or 2 people is best. Do you have time and the desire to make the most out of Zappa? Then come visit us soon for an introduction.

NL·Show original

About Zappa

What life with Zappa looks like

Zappa is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Dierenasiel Utrecht in Utrecht.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zappa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zappa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Utrecht handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zappa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zappa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Utrecht will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zappa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zappa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Utrecht early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zappa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
