Zazu

Norwegian Forest Cat · Male · Adult · 6 years

- friendly - confident - plays rough - must be able to go outside - house-trained - will not be rehomed with children or general kids - grumpy Zazu came to us as a found cat at the animal shelter. Now, this confident tomcat is seeking a forever home. Zazu is a friendly tomcat with a strong personality. He knows exactly what he wants and behaves with a corresponding sovereign attitude. Towards people, he is generally open but always on his own terms – a true character cat who doesn’t just go along but wants to be taken seriously. When playing, Zazu likes to get a bit rough. He has a lot of energy and needs mental stimulation that challenges him both physically and mentally. That’s why it’s especially important for him to have free roam. Outside, he can let off steam, explore his surroundings, and simply be a tomcat – this is essential for his well-being. Zazu is house-trained and knows the basic routines of the household. Still, he is not an “easy-care beginner tomcat.” If something doesn’t suit him or if he’s pushed to do something, he can react grumpily. This is not meant maliciously but simply part of his nature – he communicates his boundaries clearly and expects them to be respected. For this reason, Zazu is looking for a quiet home with cat-experienced people who can read his signals and give him the space he needs. He is not suitable for a household with small children or general children, as the chaos and unpredictable behavior can quickly become too much for him. However, for those willing to invest in Zazu, he offers a fascinating, independent, and character-strong companion who connects with his person in his very own way. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Zazu

What life with Zazu looks like

Zazu is a adult norwegian forest cat cat waiting at Tierheim Hamburg in Hamburg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zazu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zazu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hamburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zazu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zazu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hamburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zazu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zazu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hamburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zazu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
