Zazu

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 9 years

The Unexpected Companion This canine companion made an unexpected appearance at the finca, on the very day that Iggy was rushed into the vets. Iggy, who has been with Emma since she was 18, is the reason the sanctuary started. Remarkably, Zazu looks so much like Iggy in both appearance and behavior. When he attached himself to Emma whilst Iggy was in the vets, it was a touching and emotional sign that he wanted to join their pack. And now he is, another loyal follower of Emma. The bond between Iggy and Zazu is heartwarming. It remains a very strange coincidence how they look so alike. The uncanny resemblance between the two often surprises volunteers and visitors when they return. They often comment on how young Iggy looks, not knowing that it is actually not him. Our senior Iggy is 18 and Zazu is just over a year old.

About Zazu

What life with Zazu looks like

Zazu is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tenerife Animal Sanctuary in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee. Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zazu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zazu?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tenerife Animal Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zazu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zazu if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tenerife Animal Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Zazu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zazu isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tenerife Animal Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zazu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
