Zebra

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 7 years

Zebra was recently found on the street. She was heavily pregnant, and one of the volunteers offered her a temporary place in their home so she could give birth in peace. It was just in time, and soon the little ones were born. For now, Zebra needs to focus on raising her kittens. However, she can be reserved, which would at least secure her future. At the moment, she is still very scared, but that may change as she realizes nothing bad will happen to her anymore. Update 11.08.2020: Unfortunately, none of Zebra's kittens survived. One died the day after birth, and the other two in the following days, despite the animal welfare workers' best efforts to save them. Zebra has since been neutered and moved to the outdoor enclosure at the Perrera. She is very fearful and always hides when someone comes. She will definitely need time and patience initially. But once she feels secure and stable, she will surely relax; we just shouldn't expect too much from her right away. Update 15.05.2021: Zebra had stomach problems and needed to be isolated and treated for a while. She has now fully recovered and is back in the outdoor enclosure at the Perrera. Zebra is still shy, but the animal welfare workers are confident that she will make progress in a safe home. In the Perrera, no one has the time to give her the attention she needs. The sweet Zebra really deserves a chance! Update 25.06.2023: Since Zebra keeps having gastrointestinal issues, likely due to the stress of the shelter environment being too much for the sensitive cat, she needs to be placed in a cage. Once she is in there, she allows herself to be petted. But outside, this is not possible as she is too fearful. We are sure that in a home of her own with other cats, she will improve. Who will fall in love with the beautiful Zebra?

DE·Show original

About Zebra

What life with Zebra looks like

Zebra is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierhilfe Miezekatze e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zebra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zebra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Miezekatze e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zebra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zebra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Miezekatze e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zebra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zebra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Miezekatze e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zebra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
