Zeus

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Zeus came into the care of our friends in Linares in March 2023. The one-and-a-half-year-old (as of May 2023) mixed breed, who was first living on a field with two other dogs, was forgotten by its owners, who, upon request, did not hesitate to hand over the matted, emaciated dogs to the animal welfare workers. A few weeks later, Zeus is unrecognizable. The handsome, now muscular male dog with his gleaming coat and alert eyes, which follow the happenings in the animal shelter attentively, delights everyone who interacts with him. Although Zeus is a Border Collie mix, he does not display the often hard-to-control energy typical of them—perhaps not yet?! Our black-and-white gentleman is a very even-tempered and rather quiet dog who tries very hard to please people and gets along well with his four-legged roommates, even if he does not always have to be in the middle of the action. In the short time Zeus has lived at ArcoNatura, he has already developed well, but he still lacks many environmental experiences. To allow our beloved heartbreaker to learn what it means to be a beloved family dog, to go on long walks with his own people, to find friends in the neighborhood, to never again suffer from hunger, and to know that he can sleep securely, we now need two-legged people who are ready to show him this still unknown world and to conquer it with Zeus. Since Zeus‘s gene pool has a significant part of herding dog components, it is important that his future owners know what these clever working dogs need. Besides appropriate mental stimulation, it is also crucial for many dogs to learn how to take rest periods. So far, Zeus shows a calm and thoughtful demeanor, but he is still young and could develop an unprecedented play drive or his love for endurance sports or landscape gardening in a safe environment. Zeus looks forward to hearing from you if you have enough humor for a wonderful young pup, are patient, and motivated to explore the world with your new best friend. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Zeus

What life with Zeus looks like

Zeus is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zeus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zeus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zeus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zeus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zeus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zeus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zeus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
