Adopt Zoco

Male · Young · 2 years

Zoco is a charming big puppy – full of charm. He is cuddly, walks well on a leash, and gets along well with other dogs. In dealing with people, he can sometimes be a bit rough and needs more training. Zoco lived in a household, but he grew very quickly, leading the family to decide to bring him to Melampo. On the first day, Zoco did not understand what was going on. Who could blame him, as he was used to the everyday life in a family. Despite this, he was trusting and closely connected to the volunteer helpers at Melampo from the very beginning. He is like a big puppy, very gentle, very clingy, and playful with the volunteers. He loves being stroked and hugged. He goes along well from the start in a large group of dogs, both male and female, in the run, being very friendly with everyone. He just wants to play, he is well-behaved, and simply lovable. We hope very much that Zoco will leave the animal shelter soon and live again in a family. His new owners will certainly appreciate his loving and trusting behavior. However, the new owners should definitely be aware of his size and clearly choose a very large dog. We do not want his sad story to repeat itself. Please make sure to inform yourself about the breed beforehand so that you can assess whether Zoco really fits into your life. Zoco has already lived in a family, but he will need time and patience to adjust to the new circumstances. We are sure that with his open nature, this will succeed soon. All the best Zoco!. This is a young, adolescent dog.

Alles Gute Zoco!

About Zoco

What life with Zoco looks like

Zoco is a large young adult dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zoco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zoco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zoco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zoco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zoco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zoco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zoco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
