Warning: The breed Scottish Fold or Highland Fold involves a breeding practice that causes suffering. The distinctive folded ears of the Folds are the result of breeding with a genetic disorder (Osteochondrodysplasia). Cats with folded ears are born with an incurable illness and suffer from severe pain throughout their lives. We have already observed painful changes in the movement of Scottish-Fold kittens. Therefore, the question is not whether, but when one must treat these cats with pain medication. Accordingly, adopting a Scottish Fold should be considered with the understanding that it comes with expensive treatments and high veterinary costs. Please familiarize yourself with the issues of this breeding practice before deciding to adopt one of the affected cats. In Zwiebels' former home, they were overwhelmed with caring for multiple cats – so the handsome tomcat found his way to the animal shelter. So far, he shows himself as a rather quiet companion who, however, enjoys the company of people and demands cuddles after a small 'warm-up phase.' He seems to have no problems with the two other tomcats in the room, but he has not actively sought contact so far.

About Zwiebel

What life with Zwiebel looks like

Zwiebel is a young adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zwiebel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zwiebel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zwiebel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zwiebel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zwiebel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zwiebel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zwiebel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
