Adopting a pet in Zadar
Zadar has a network of animal shelters and rescue organisations working to find loving homes for dogs, cats, and other animals. When you adopt from a shelter in Zadar, you give a rescued animal a second chance while supporting local animal welfare efforts in Croatia.
What to expect when adopting
- Fill out an adoption application — shelters want to ensure a good match for both you and the animal
- Meet the animal in person or arrange a virtual visit with the shelter
- Most shelter animals come vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered or spayed
- Adoption fees vary by shelter and typically cover veterinary care costs
- Some shelters conduct home checks before finalising the adoption
