Olimme ruokkineet Bootlesin emoa useita kuukausia Rudozemin keskuksessa. Oli ilmiselvää, että hän odotti pentuja, ja jonkin ajan kuluttua kävi selväksi, että hän oli synnyttänyt. Emokoira pelkosi ihmiset kovasti, eikä mitenkään saaneet meidän yrittämistämme huolimatta hänen luottamuksensa voitettua – hän piti pentunsa piilossa. Lopulta pennut alkoivat seurata häntä keskukseen ja erkaantuivat hänestä. Ne juoksivat ympäriinsä teillä, eksyneinä ja peloissaan. Meillä ei ollut muuta vaihtoehtoa kuin pyydystää ne ja viedä ne turvallisesti tarhalle. Bootlesin sisarukset adoptoitiin lopulta kaikki, mutta Bootlesta ei koskaan tullut. We had been feeding Bootles mother for several months in the center of Rudozem. It was obvious she was expecting puppies and after a while it became apparent that she had given birth. The mother dog was petrified of humans and no matter how much we tried, we never managed to gain her trust and she kept her babies hidden. Eventually the puppies started following her into the centre and became separated from her. They were running about in the roads, lost and scared. We had no choice but to catch them and get them safely to the shelter. Bootles siblings were all eventually adopted but Bootle never was. She is still wary of people she doesn't know and it takes a very long time for her to accept and trust you but once she does it is so rewarding.
