Adottare Bootle

Avevamo nutrito la madre di Bootle per diversi mesi nel centro di Rudozem. Era evidente che fosse in attesa di cuccioli e dopo un po' è diventato chiaro che aveva partorito. La cagna madre era terrorizzata dagli esseri umani e, per quanto ci provassimo, non siamo mai riusciti a guadagnarci la sua fiducia, e lei teneva i piccoli nascosti. Alla fine i cuccioli hanno iniziato a seguirla nel centro e si sono separati da lei. Giravano per le strade, smarriti e spaventati. Non avevamo altra scelta che catturarli e portarli in sicurezza al rifugio. Tutti i fratellini di Bootle sono stati infine adottati, ma Bootle no. Lei è ancora diffidente verso le persone che non conosce e le occorre molto tempo per accettare e fidarsi di qualcuno, ma quando ci riesce è davvero gratificante.

We had been feeding Bootles mother for several months in the center of Rudozem. It was obvious she was expecting puppies and after a while it became apparent that she had given birth. The mother dog was petrified of humans and no matter how much we tried, we never managed to gain her trust and she kept her babies hidden. Eventually the puppies started following her into the centre and became separated from her. They were running about in the roads, lost and scared. We had no choice but to catch them and get them safely to the shelter. Bootles siblings were all eventually adopted but Bootle never was. She is still wary of people she doesn't know and it takes a very long time for her to accept and trust you but once she does it is so rewarding.
