We hrănisem mama lui Bootles timp de mai multe luni în centrul orașului Rudozem. Era evident că aștepta pui, iar după un timp a devenit clar că dăduse naștere. Mama câinelui era îngrozită de oameni și, oricât ne-am străduit, nu am reușit niciodată să-i câștigăm încrederea, iar ea își ținea puii ascunși. În cele din urmă, puii au început să o urmeze în centru și s-au despărțit de ea. Rătăceau pe străzi, pierduți și speriați. Nu am avut de ales decât să-i prindem și să-i aducem în siguranță la adăpost. Frații lui Bootle au fost cu toții adoptați până la urmă, dar Bootle nu a fost niciodată. Ea este încă rezervată față de persoanele pe care nu le cunoaște, iar până să accepte și să aibă încredere în cineva trece foarte mult timp, dar odată ce o face, este atât de gratificant.

We had been feeding Bootles mother for several months in the center of Rudozem. It was obvious she was expecting puppies and after a while it became apparent that she had given birth. The mother dog was petrified of humans and no matter how much we tried, we never managed to gain her trust and she kept her babies hidden. Eventually the puppies started following her into the centre and became separated from her. They were running about in the roads, lost and scared. We had no choice but to catch them and get them safely to the shelter. Bootles siblings were all eventually adopted but Bootle never was. She is still wary of people she doesn't know and it takes a very long time for her to accept and trust you but once she does it is so rewarding.
