Abigail

German Shepherd · Female · Adult · 5 years

Abigail is a beautiful Herder female dog with a past that should never have happened to her. She lived on a chain, was then discarded, and eventually ended up at the dead station (the "dodenstation"), until we were fortunately able to get her out of there in time. When she arrived with us, she was skin and bones and weak. Her little body had been through a lot, and you can still see that a little. But perhaps most touching of all is how, despite everything, she has kept her gentle, faithful character. Abigail is a true herder: loyal, affectionate, and strongly devoted to "her" person. She builds a lovely bond with the people she trusts and clearly enjoys attention and rest. For Abigail, we are looking for a calm, stable home where she can finally catch her breath. Ideally she is placed as the only dog, so she receives all the attention and security she has missed so much. A placement with a stable, larger male could also be an option. After everything she has been through, Abigail deserves no more temporary solutions, but a real home. A place where she can land, where she is seen, and where she may stay forever. Who will give this brave soul the future she longs for?

NL·Show original

About Abigail

What life with Abigail looks like

Abigail is an adult german shepherd dog waiting at ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee. Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Abigail, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Abigail?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Abigail on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Abigail if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Abigail already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Abigail isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Abigail and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
