Abu

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 9 years

Hello... My name is Abu and I've never had a home. I am 9 years old and I know that I'm not the dog everyone is looking for. My hair has gray hairs, my size isn't that of a little lap dog and in my eyes you can see the tiredness of having lived an entire life outdoors. For 9 years, my home was the cold asphalt of a town. There were good people who left me some food, and I thank them for it, but when night fell and it started to rain, everyone went into their homes with their families... and I stayed outside, huddled in any corner, wondering what it would feel like to be on the other side of the door. In 9 years on the street, no one had ever petted me. I didn't know what that warmth was. I discovered it recently when I arrived at the shelter. At first I was scared, but the volunteers looked at me with so much tenderness that I let myself be carried away. Since then, they never stop putting little bandages in the shape of kisses on the scars of my soul. Now I know that humans can give love... but I still don't know what it is to have my own human. My own family. The volunteers say they won't give up on me, that somewhere there is a special person who will not look at my age or size, but rather my desire to make up for lost time. Someone who wants to give me the best years of my life. I don't want to ask much. Just a warm corner, a routine, and some arms that squeeze me tight when I'm scared. You don't have to worry about anything other than wanting me: If you take me in, the shelter will cover all my expenses. You only have to open your heart; they already take care of the vet and food. I don't want to be everyone's dog and no one's forever. I want to be yours. Will you give me a chance to know what home is before it's too late? If you want to change my destiny, call us 692 87 19 84

«Hola… Me llamo Abu y nunca he tenido un hogar.» No quiero pedir mucho.

About Abu

What life with Abu looks like

Abu is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Aloia Protectora in Tui.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Abu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Abu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aloia Protectora handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Abu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Abu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aloia Protectora will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Abu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Abu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aloia Protectora early rather than rehoming privately; they know Abu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
