Adopt Ace

Rottweiler · Male · Senior · 13 years

In the animal shelter since: 03.01.2018, Privately surrendered: no, Child-friendly: no, Compatible with other dogs: conditionally - not in the same household, Cat-friendly: no, prey drive: mild, Weight: 38.5 kg, Everyday behavior evaluation (ATP): passed with animal caregiver Elina Ace is a sturdy Rottweiler who came to the animal shelter because his Frauchen unexpectedly passed away. This event seems to have left a small trauma behind, as he took a long time to trust someone again. Under external pressure or stress, Ace cannot handle it at all. One must already know him well and know exactly how to calm and control him in such situations. Generally, he is a rather friendly fellow and not averse to strangers. However, it requires consistent leadership and a lot of finesse from his people to help him accept boundaries and rules. For Ace, we are therefore looking for dog-experienced and patient people who bring a lot of know-how in terms of training and handling.

About Ace

What life with Ace looks like

Ace is a large senior rottweiler dog waiting at Tierheim Wels in Wels.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Trauma from owner's death, requires stress-free environment and experienced handling

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ace, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ace?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wels handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ace on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ace if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wels will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ace already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ace isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wels early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ace and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
