Adopt Ace

English Bulldog · Male · Young · 3 years

Ace has developed into a loyal and cheerful companion, who now walks well on a leash and is increasingly curious and active in life, having been more insecure as a puppy. He is a loving and very sensitive fellow with a big heart, seeking the company of his trusted people and inviting cuddles. With food, he is very charming, opening up quickly with unfamiliar people. His curious nature makes him a great explorer, calmly and friendly accepting new situations. With other dogs, Ace shows a balanced and interested demeanor and can pass by them calmly. In his new home, other dogs as well as young children can live. With cats, he is cautious and retreats, and we can introduce him to cats, which would need to be further tested. Also, in traffic, Ace is confident and shows how positively he has developed. One can clearly feel his trust and joy in going through life with his person. To walk with Ace, a qualification certificate is required due to an assessment, in Schleswig-Holstein:• Qualification certificate (obtained through a successful theoretical and practical qualification test with the dog considered dangerous by the assessment) various dog schools offer this.• Provisional qualification certificate (for 3 months) a community can apply for a provisional permit, allowing training for the practical test with this dog.• Driving license (18 years old, personal suitability, and required reliability)• Permission from the responsible authority• Muzzle and leash control (not on one's own property, but the property must be secured so the dog cannot escape.)• Proof of completion of liability insurance• Microchip identification (completed by the animal shelter) “Resocialization” possible: If dogs have become conspicuous (biting a person or animal, or uncontrolled chasing or pulling), the assessment as a dangerous dog can be rescinded after 2 years if the dogs have successfully passed a behavioral assessment and have been evaluated by a specialist in behavior or therapy.

About Ace

What life with Ace looks like

Ace is a large young adult english bulldog dog waiting at Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel in Kiel.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ace, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ace?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ace on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ace if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ace already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ace isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ace and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
