Ace

German Shepherd · Male · Adult · 4 years

Baby Ace with the baby face and the not-so-babyish character. We can't quite figure out why he's still with us, as he's getting better every day. When exposed to frustrating situations, he now stands there calmly and watches part of the time. When the frustration level increases, he becomes very tense—and that's it. He doesn't bite, he doesn't snap, he just becomes tense and attentive. What a growth spurt!!! And if he's already doing so well with us, how strong can he develop in his own home? We are convinced that in Ace there is a loyal, laid-back companion who just needs a little help coming out. Ace would rather be with rural breed enthusiasts with knowledge and the will to further train him in resilience and sovereignty. He loves to snuggle, master tasks with his person, and go for a ride on a bike. He's always up for silliness; whether it's climbing on dog hutches, being chauffeured in a pushcart, or turning a beer tent setup into a fun obstacle course with his person. When told, "Do you want to? We can do it!" he's happy to join in on the fun with everything that goes along with it, by his primary caregiver's side. Why is he not a family dog with kids or other small animals? Because he has already had to show that the predator dog does not want to be coddled or diminished. Despite his baby face, he remains simply a real dog and is no plush toy! Meaning: When he was given little peace and even fewer rules, he had to bite; unfortunately. Since he's been allowed to enjoy rules and structure, he's much more peaceful, but he remains not to be underestimated. A laid-back, medium to large only dog would be the jackpot for him. When can Ace find peace with you and learn the beautiful sides of life? If you would like to meet Ace, please fill out our inquiry form. This animal was abandoned.

DE·Show original

About Ace

What life with Ace looks like

Ace is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ace, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ace?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ace on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ace if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ace already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ace isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ace and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
