Ada

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 15 years

Ada is a Podenco. Now you are probably thinking that someone working for Spanish animal welfare should know how to spell Podenco - but Ada is not only a bat-eared dog, but also partly a Boxer... and believe me, this is a mix that promises a lot of fun. Before Ada came into the hands of the animal welfare workers from Dolmen Animal, the cute, six-month-old ball of fluff had not had much fun at all. She was born into a family that did not appreciate their adult female dog, and unwanted puppies were the last thing these people wanted (but never thought of doing anything to prevent a litter). The puppies were all given away, just like our little princess. After a few weeks, Ada ended up on the street again, and when the animal welfare workers found out about the desperate puppy fighting for its life, Ada already had the biggest sword of Damocles hanging over her head: parvovirus... Ada was taken in by an experienced foster family and fought against the virus. As the fighter she is, she managed to smile cheerfully at the Grim Reaper and ask him to knock again in at least 15 years. Meanwhile, our bundle of energy is now in perfect health and full of joy for life. The cat living in the house of her foster parents has become a plaything and is now compulsorily required to run around the house with a young dog (which she does stoically and, if necessary, retreats to a cupboard for a nap). Ada loves her housecat and cuddles with her. As a part-Podenco, she naturally appreciates the warmth of her friend. Ada is looking for an active and very humorous family who would like to explain the world to this little toy car. If you like being outdoors, if you have a high enough garden fence and know that both Podencos and Boxers are jumpers and climbers, if you like cuddling and know how to properly handle a ball, if you can laugh at holes in stolen socks and the life with a young dog does not disturb your peace, then you are exactly the right person for Ada. We look forward to hearing from you and even more, to seeing many pictures of our princess as she enchants your heart, your house, your family and the whole neighborhood.

DE·Show original

About Ada

What life with Ada looks like

Ada is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ada, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ada?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ada on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ada if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ada already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ada isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ada and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
