Adopt Butch

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Meet Butch, our gentle 9-year-old Lurcher looking for a loving retirement home. Butch arrived with us in a very sorry state, with sore, uncomfortable skin that needed plenty of care and attention. Thanks to lots of TLC, he's made wonderful progress and is feeling much happier, although he still has a little way to go on his journey. Despite everything he's been through, Butch has remained a wonderfully friendly boy who greets everyone he meets with a wagging tail. He has a lovely, affectionate nature and is always happy to spend time with his favourite people. Food is definitely the way to his heart, and he's always eager to earn a tasty treat. Playtime is still a bit of a mystery to Butch, as he hasn't quite discovered the joy of toys yet. We'd love to see him find a patient family who can gently introduce him to the fun of games and help build his confidence along the way. Butch is looking for a home where he can be the only dog, giving him the chance to soak up all the love and attention for himself. With a little encouragement and reassurance, we're sure his confidence will continue to blossom. If you're looking for a kind-hearted companion to share peaceful walks, cosy evenings and lots of love, Butch could be the perfect addition to your family. About Adopt Butch

What life with Adopt Butch looks like

Adopt Butch is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Hope Rescue in Pontyclun.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Adopt Butch, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Adopt Butch?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Adopt Butch on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Adopt Butch if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Adopt Butch already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Adopt Butch isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Adopt Butch and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
