Adopt Jivi

Greyhound · Female · Adult · 7 years

Jivi is a curious, playful and gentle soul who slept peacefully through her very first night, tucked up close to her foster family. By morning she was ready for playtime with her beloved parrot toy 🦜 What her foster pawrents say: '"She's the best adventure buddy, up for anything and just an absolute dote with the happiest smile on her face always. So sweet, affectionate, silly and playful. She'll make the most wonderful companion for sure." Some of you will have noticed that Jivi recently returned to her foster home after a home trial. She found the move into a brand new environment overwhelming and was anxious, shy and not quite herself, crying during her first two nights. The family decided to end the home trial early, and Jivi settled straight back into her familiar routine 🐾. As with many rescue hounds, adjusting to a new home takes time, patience and reassurance. We are incredibly proud of how resilient Jivi has been, and she continues to show us every day what a happy, affectionate and wonderful companion she is. From the moment she arrived, Jivi embraced home life with both paws. After giving every inch of the house and garden a thorough inspection, she discovered comfy beds, a toy box and a cosy sofa, and was soon sprawled out alongside her foster sisters taking notes on the very best places to nap 🛋. Household noises such as the cooker, hoover, dishwasher and washing machine sparked her curiosity at first, but after hearing them once she happily returned to snoozing or entertaining herself with her toys. She is fully toilet trained and has had no accidents in foster, sleeping soundly through the night on her own bed beside her foster family. As with any rescue dog, a move into a new home can temporarily affect routines while she learns a new family's schedule. Jivi is also becoming more confident spending short periods home alone. Her foster family have left her for up to an hour and a half, where she happily snoozed away while being watched on the nanny cam 📹. This is something that will continue to be built up gradually in a new home. Out and about, Jivi comes alive. She loves an adventure and happily trots into cafes and pet shops, always ready to pick out a tasty treat or a new toy while soaking up compliments from everyone she meets ☕. On walks she may start off with a little excitement, but quickly settles into a relaxed pace, making sure she catches up on all the neighbourhood gossip through her nose. She takes traffic, bikes and even construction work completely in her stride. New sounds might make her stop for a curious look, but with a little reassurance she happily carries on. Jivi enjoys the company of other dogs and especially loves playing with them. She has made lots of canine pals and it is a joy to watch her being her wonderfully happy, silly self. 💛 Sweet, affectionate and loves human company 🦮 Walks beautifully and quickly settles into a relaxed stroll ☕ Loves adventures, cafes and pet shop outings 🐕 Gets along wonderfully with other dogs and loves to play 🧻 Fully toilet trained in foster 😴 Sleeps soundly through the night 🏠 Happy to relax for short periods alone, being built up gradually 🚗 Calm around household noises, traffic, bikes and everyday life 😁 Happy, silly, curious and always wearing the biggest smile 💞 A family who understands that rescue hounds need patience, reassurance and time 🎒 People who would enjoy an adventure buddy 🐶 Happy either as an only hound or with a canine friend Beautiful Jivi has officially waved goodbye to kennels to begin an exciting new chapter in Galway, where she is settling beautifully into her wonderful foster home 🏡. And what a little sweetheart she is. Jivi is a curious, playful and gentle soul who slept peacefully through her very first night, tucked up close to her foster family. By morning she was ready for playtime with her beloved parrot toy 🦜. She is already proving to be a dream to walk, especially when there are plenty of interesting sniffs to investigate along the way. Jivi is also discovering the joys of home comforts. She happily seeks out cuddles whenever she gets the chance and is quickly becoming a big fan of cosy beds and all the comforts of family life. And as if she could not get any more adorable, this precious girl even has a tiny love heart marking on her back ❤️. A huge greyt THANK YOU to Ada, Maggie and their wonderful humans for opening their hearts and home to this very special girl. Because of you, Jivi has left the waiting list behind and taken her first steps towards finding her forever family 🙏. Jivi is currently in foster in Galway. We also host regular meet and greet events across Ireland, giving you the chance to meet our hounds in a relaxed, friendly setting. View some of our hounds looking for homes here. Greyhounds are one of the most misunderstood breeds around. They're gentle, quiet and surprisingly easy to live with. Two short walks a day, a warm bed and a bit of company is really all they ask for. • Two short walks a day, then back to the couch.• Quiet and calm, with a playful side that catches you off guard.• Low maintenance coat and very easy to groom.• Adaptable to most homes and lifestyles.• Full of personality: roaching, sighing and being adorably odd. About Adopt Jivi

What life with Adopt Jivi looks like

Adopt Jivi is a large adult greyhound dog waiting at RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team in Dublin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Adopt Jivi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Adopt Jivi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Adopt Jivi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Adopt Jivi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Adopt Jivi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Adopt Jivi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team early rather than rehoming privately; they know Adopt Jivi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
