Adopt Benny

Greyhound · Male · Adult · 7 years

A gentle, charming blue boy who found the sofa on his very first day and hasn't looked back. What his foster pawrents say: “Benny is an absolute gent and has already made himself right at home." Benny is a five-year-old blue boy who arrived in his Dublin foster home on 5th May, which also happened to be his birthday. Kennel life is behind him and sofa life has officially begun. First impressions? Gentle, calm and quietly confident. He found the couch in record time, which tells you everything you need to know about him. He's still taking in all the new sights and smells, as any newly arrived hound would be. But with foster hound Jenny by his side, he's settling in beautifully. Early signs suggest Benny and Jenny are going to be very good friends indeed. Benny arrived and immediately got on with the important business of being adored. He's calm, gentle and easy to be around, the kind of boy who makes himself at home without any fuss. Early days, but the signs are all very good. 💙 Gorgeous blue boy with a gentle, calm nature.🛋️ Found the sofa on day one and settled in straight away.🐕 Getting on brilliantly with foster hound Jenny from the very start.😴 Settling into his sleep routine.🚽 House training in progress.🌍 Getting used to everyday sounds on local walks.✨ Still discovering toys and play. More updates coming as Benny settles. RIGHT is a volunteer-run, foster-based organisation founded in 2019, dedicated to finding loving homes for Irish greyhounds here in Ireland. Every greyhound in our care lives in a real home with an experienced foster family before adoption. This means that by the time you meet a RIGHT hound, they are already house-trained, used to home comforts and showing you exactly who they are. Our foster families give us a real picture of each hound's personality, routines and needs, so we can match the right hound with the right home. We also host regular meet and greet events across Ireland, giving you the chance to meet our hounds in a relaxed, friendly setting. We have greyhounds waiting for homes and you can view some of them here on our Adoption page. Greyhounds are one of the most misunderstood breeds around. They're gentle, quiet and surprisingly easy to live with. Two short walks a day, a warm bed and a bit of company is really all they ask for. • Two short walks a day, then back to the couch.• Quiet and calm, with a playful side that catches you off guard.• Low maintenance coat and very easy to groom.• Adaptable to most homes and lifestyles.• Full of personality: roaching, sighing and being adorably odd. Once a greyhound chooses you, you'll wonder how you ever managed without one. About Benny

What life with Benny looks like

Benny is a large adult greyhound dog waiting at RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team in Dublin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Benny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Benny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
