Billy

Greyhound · Male · Adult · 7 years

Billy, a sweet-natured, quick-witted black boy who figured out toys on day three and has been working on perfecting his paw of more ever since. What his foster pawrents say: “Billy is settling in so well, he's already got us wrapped around his paw.” Billy is a two-year-old black boy who arrived in his foster home on 26th April and has been quietly impressing everyone around him ever since. He came in a little unsure, which is completely understandable after a long day of travel and a whole lot of new. But he found the garden on day one and claimed it immediately. By day three, toys had been discovered. By the end of the week, the paw of more had been perfected. A signature move where Billy gently places his paw on you to request additional pets. It works every time. He's sweet, gentle and settling in beautifully. At two years old, he has so much love to give and is ready to find the family he'll give it to. Billy arrived quietly and has been turning up the charm steadily ever since. He's a gentle, affectionate boy with a clever streak and a very polite way of asking for what he wants. 🖤 Gorgeous black boy with a sweet, gentle nature.🐾 Famous for his paw of more, his signature move for requesting extra pets.🌿 Claimed the garden as his favourite spot from day one.🧸 Discovered the joy of toys within days and hasn't looked back.🤓 Quick learner who picks things up fast.🦮 A true gentleman on the lead.🐕 Good with dogs both big and small.👧 Great with children aged eight and over.😴 Settling into his sleep routine.🚽 House training in progress.🌍 Getting used to everyday sounds on local walks. More updates coming as Billy settles. RIGHT is a volunteer-run, foster-based organisation founded in 2019, dedicated to finding loving homes for Irish greyhounds here in Ireland. Every greyhound in our care lives in a real home with an experienced foster family before adoption. This means that by the time you meet a RIGHT hound, they are already house-trained, used to home comforts and showing you exactly who they are. Our foster families give us a real picture of each hound's personality, routines and needs, so we can match the right hound with the right home. We also host regular meet and greet events across Ireland, giving you the chance to meet our hounds in a relaxed, friendly setting. View some of the hounds here. Greyhounds are one of the most misunderstood breeds around. They're gentle, quiet and surprisingly easy to live with. Two short walks a day, a warm bed and a bit of company is really all they ask for. • Two short walks a day, then back to the couch.• Quiet and calm, with a playful side that catches you off guard.• Low maintenance coat and very easy to groom.• Adaptable to most homes and lifestyles.• Full of personality: roaching, sighing and being adorably odd. Once a greyhound chooses you, you'll wonder how you ever managed without one. About Billy

What life with Billy looks like

Billy is a large adult greyhound dog waiting at RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team in Dublin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Billy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Billy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Billy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Billy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Billy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Billy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RIGHT - Rehoming Irish Greyhounds Team early rather than rehoming privately; they know Billy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
