How do I contact the shelter about Adopt Monty?

Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Adopt Monty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.

Can I adopt Adopt Monty if I live in another country?

Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.

Is Adopt Monty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?

Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.

What happens if Adopt Monty isn't the right fit?

Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Adopt Monty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?

TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.

Adopt Monty

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Meet Monty, our gentle giant with the biggest heart. This handsome Lurcher is looking for a very special home where he can enjoy life at his own pace, surrounded by love, comfort and understanding. Monty is suspected to have a condition called Cervical Spondylomyelopathy, more commonly known as Wobblers Syndrome. This condition, which is most often seen in large and giant breed dogs, causes compression of the spinal cord in his neck. This affects the messages travelling between the brain and the body, giving Monty his characteristic "wobbly" gait and making him a little unsteady on his feet at times. This is a progressive condition so it is likely his symptoms will become more noticeable as he gets older. Monty is managing very well with pain relief and anti-inflammatory medication, and he continues to enjoy life to the fullest. Despite his diagnosis, Monty is full of love and affection. He adores people and is happiest when he's close to his favourite humans, leaning in for cuddles with his signature "Lurcher lean." He enjoys getting out for gentle walks, happily sniffing his way around our woodland paths or pottering around our secure paddocks, taking everything in at his own pace. He could gradually build up to being left for a few hours if needed and would love a home with a secure, flat garden where he can enjoy soaking up the sunshine and spending time outdoors, especially on the days when he's feeling a little less energetic. Monty could also live with sensible and understanding children around 10 years old, who are able to respect his condition and appreciate that he sometimes needs a quieter pace of life. Monty may have a few extra needs, but what he gives back is immeasurable. His unwavering loyalty, gentle nature and endless affection make him an incredibly special boy. If you're looking to open your heart to a dog who will reward your kindness with unconditional love every single day, Monty could be the perfect companion. About Adopt Monty

What life with Adopt Monty looks like

Adopt Monty is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hope Rescue in Pontyclun.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.
