Akita Inu Hachi

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Hachi is a placement from the surrounding area. Multiple strayings already caught our attention before the placement, and the previous owner’s counseling resistance ultimately led to the authorities having to intervene. Hachi was lovingly and cared for from an early age, but at some point, his life concept changed, and he was often left to his own devices. Rassetypically independent, he strayed through the area multiple times, his imposing appearance making people, and even himself, feel insecure. As he had been left alone frequently recently, Hachi was forced to make independent decisions, even though he sought and needed guidance. The routine and the opportunity to respectfully allow him to decide what he can do have allowed him to settle in our care. Now, he initiates contact independently and enjoys the routine. He masters some basic commands that other Akita Inu owners dream of. If a new owner gives him time to build trust and regain a sense of security, they will meet an Akita Inu that is rassetypically independent but absolutely loyal. One just has to be able to allow it. Hachi could also be rehomed as a second dog, although a test may be necessary. However, we see him more as a single placement with friendly contacts in the area. His living environment should be rural, ideally a house with a garden. No excessive children’s commotion. And with a good portion of understanding for conversations, he is insecure, he says. Even excitement is always commented on with barking. With sensitivity, patience, and the necessary leadership qualities, Hachi is also suitable for owners of the breed who are still gaining breed experience. Knowledge of handling dogs is advantageous, and basic knowledge of reading dogs is assumed. Which Akita enthusiast falls in love with the independent and sensitive giant?.

DE·Show original

About Akita Inu Hachi

What life with Akita Inu Hachi looks like

Akita Inu Hachi is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Akita Inu Hachi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Akita Inu Hachi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Akita Inu Hachi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Akita Inu Hachi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Akita Inu Hachi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Akita Inu Hachi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Akita Inu Hachi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
