Akuma

Akita · Male · Adult · 4 years

American Akita neutered male dog, born 2022 | Height: 65 cm | Weight: 46 kg | Children: unknown | Cats: no | Dogs: conditionally vaccinated | microchipped, available for adoption. This animal can be adopted upon finding suitable space after sufficient getting-to-know each other. Akuma came to the animal shelter after his beloved owner passed away. He is a typical American Akita male dog: stable, sovereign, character-strong, and nothing can easily ruffle his feathers. In the animal shelter, outside of his territory, he shows a neutral to friendly attitude towards strangers, but one should consider that this breed was originally bred as a guard dog. Akuma loves long, comfortable walks and is well-behaved on a leash. He lived with his first owners in a family with children, where, upon entering puberty, he began to restrict and discipline the children and the family’s second dog. Akuma needs clear rules and good guidance from his human to understand that he does not have to take the reins, but that his humans are there for that. How he behaves when strangers visit his home could not be determined, as he has not really been acquainted with it. Prospective owners should be well-informed about the breed's characteristics and have dog experience. Under the right conditions, Akuma is a dream dog who sticks by his human through thick and thin.

About Akuma

What life with Akuma looks like

Akuma is a adult akita dog waiting at Tierheim Dechanthof in Mistelbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Akuma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Akuma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dechanthof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Akuma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Akuma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dechanthof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Akuma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Akuma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dechanthof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Akuma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
