Adopt Athos

Beagle · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Past: born from an unwanted litter following a mother's escape attempt. + Pat: patty; calm; playful; quiet; cuddly - Fear: fearful of sudden movements. Hello, my name is Athos 😍. I'm a big pup... or rather, a pre-ado, to be precise. I've already reached my adult size, but in my mind, there's still a lot to discover! I grew up in a house with kids, so I have some notions of cuddles, gentleness, and family life. However, the big outside world is still a bit of a mystery to me—walks, new meet-ups, city or country noises... all these are adventures I'd like to learn to live with a patient and kind family. I'm a gentle, calm, and playful pup. I love sharing moments with humans, relaxing after a game, and enjoying the company of those I love. Now, I have to admit something: I haven't yet earned my dog training diploma. The basics are still to be worked on, and it seems I can be a bit stubborn, but personally, I prefer to say I have convictions 😇. With patience, consistency, and a few well-placed treats, I'm certain I can progress. However, there's one very important thing to know about me: I don't like being alone because I've always lived surrounded by my brothers and sisters, so loneliness weighs on me quickly. I'm not destructive; I don't seek to redo the living room decor, but I would be much happier in a home where another dog would be waiting to share the days, games, naps, and little moments of life. My ideal home? A family ready to accompany a big adolescent in his discoveries, to teach him the rules of the outside world, and to offer the reassuring presence of a canine companion. So, if you already have a nice dog and a place in your heart for a big pup who just wants to grow surrounded by love, I believe we are made for each other. ❤️🐾 Breed history: Beagle: originally from England; life expectancy 12 to 15 years; height 33 to 41 cm, weight 9 to 11 kg; excitable; placid; intelligent; determined; agreeable; gentle; easily trainable; ideal for children; needs exercise; very affectionate; extremely hunter. About Athos

What life with Athos looks like

Athos is a puppy/kitten beagle dog waiting at SPA de l in France.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Athos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Athos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA de l handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Athos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Athos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA de l will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Athos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Athos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA de l early rather than rehoming privately; they know Athos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
