Altor

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Gentle, good-natured giant: Altor is looking for his home. The sweet Altor probably never had a home. On a rainy day in November, a woman noticed him. Altor was lingering hungry and cold next to overflowing trash bins, probably looking for something edible. In his short life, he has learned not to trust all two-legged beings right away, and it took some time before he was convinced by the woman and got into her car. Without lying, this was certainly his best decision so far. Now he lives at the animal shelter of Animal Protection and learns every day that all two-legged beings there are kind, loving and gentle and that the food there is like a five-star dog hotel. Altor no longer needs to hide or shrink. He is a handsome male dog who still lacks a bit of self-confidence. Here at the animal shelter he is slowly thawing out and behind the uncertainty a cheerful, playful puppy emerges, who actually likes people but is still a bit shy. He is initially skeptical and reserved with strangers. This passes when he realizes he is not being pressured and the two-legged being is calm, gentle and patient. Altor also finds other dogs great. He likes to play and watches the "show-offs" closely. In his new family, Altor will certainly show some reservation at first, as everything will be new and unfamiliar. But we are sure that with patience and love something truly great can grow from Altor. Namely, the most loyal and loving companion that people can wish for. Altor is in the best age and wants to experience so much more. Young, active people who enjoy being out in nature with their dog would be ideal. Against a friendly, confident single dog, Altor would have nothing against it, on the contrary. This would certainly make the adaptation easier. However, city life would not be suitable for him, it could overwhelm him. Altor is now on the search for his humans, who recognize his potential and turn a large male dog with low self-esteem into a large male dog with great strength. Who wants to help him? The animals are described as they behave at the animal shelter or in the foster home. This behavior does not appear immediately upon arrival. Some also react initially with fear to the new situation. Animals from the animal protection have all had a past, which was usually not very nice or even cruel. This past cannot be shaken off overnight. They need time to arrive and to gain trust. Please be patient and give your animal the necessary time!. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Altor

What life with Altor looks like

Altor is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Altor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Altor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Altor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Altor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Altor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Altor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina early rather than rehoming privately; they know Altor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
