adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Amadou can stay forever! His story: Goldschatz Amadou bravely explores the rooms of his foster home after many, many years in the shelter. He begins to look around, where his foster parents are and what they are doing. Currently, he follows them with a bit of safety distance from room to room. However, if someone with a camera gets closer, he still finds it a bit suspicious… Because our beautiful Amadou is still shy and not very fond of being touched. His reticence was likely the reason why no one gave him a chance earlier and he had to endure so long in the shelter. For many years, he only had a dreary everyday life on the same square meters, with no stimulation or pleasant experiences. Perhaps due to a lack of or bad experiences with people, he was firmly stuck in his fear of us two-legged beings at the public shelter in Baia Mare, where no one took the time to build trust. But now, thanks to his foster home, the tide has turned! Although Amadou, at around 12 years old, is in his senior years, he gives an alert and age-appropriate fit impression, so we are convinced that he simply needs time to continue making progress and settling into his new life. Surely, he will make a wonderful companion once he has learned that he is no longer in danger. Despite his painful life story, Amadou is still full of joy. With a shoulder height of 45 cm, he belongs to the medium-sized dogs. Amadou gets along well with his fellow animals. We cannot yet say anything about his behavior towards cats. We are looking for a quieter home for our Amadou that already has dog experience. Amadou wishes for patient, empathetic, and understanding hands that give him time, patience, and loving affection so he can continue to open up. Amadou can be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas when moving into his new home. He will bring his EU pet passport of course after a positive assessment. Who would like to give our Amadou his first and only real home? Many thanks to Tina R.! You gave Amadou his name and thus his identity! Date: 02.11.

Vielen Dank an Tina R.! Stand: 02.11.2025

About Amadou

What life with Amadou looks like

Amadou is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amadou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amadou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amadou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amadou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amadou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amadou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amadou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
