Amelia

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Amelia is an incredibly kind female dog, about 5.5 years old, who is urgently looking for a new home. She lived with twelve other dogs with a man near Constanta, who always took good care of his dogs. Unfortunately, he passed away unexpectedly, and the dogs suddenly had nowhere to go. The house is being demolished, and without help, the dogs would end up in the local shelter or be taken by dog catchers. Fortunately, temporary shelter has been found for all the dogs. Amelia is currently staying with a foster carer, but because the foster carer is ill, we are urgently looking for a nice place where Amelia can truly settle down. Since arriving, Amelia has fully adapted to the other dogs in the shelter. Additionally, she gets along well with everyone and shows a stable and friendly character. She is social, gentle, and likes to be near people. The foster carer even says that she prefers to stay close to where she herself is. In terms of character and behavior, they can find no single downside. Furthermore, Amelia is a medium-sized dog of about 20 kg. Amelia has no problems with the cat that also lives at the shelter. In short, Amelia is an amazing dog who, after all the changes in her life, truly deserves to be allowed to come home somewhere again. Can she come to your home? About Amelia

What life with Amelia looks like

Amelia is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Stichting Help een Hond in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amelia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amelia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Help een Hond handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amelia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amelia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Help een Hond will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amelia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amelia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Help een Hond early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amelia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
