Amor

Male · Adult · 7 years

Amor is 7 years old and is a German Shepherd dog. He came to the animal shelter directly from his home — a place he knew, where he felt safe and which he had to suddenly leave. It wasn't his fault, but his caregiver was no longer able to take care of him. For a dog, this is always a huge change and Amor has experienced it very deeply. He is in good physical condition, and his calm behavior reveals that he previously lived with a person. On walks, he shows his best side — he walks beautifully on a leash, doesn't pull, reacts carefully to the caregiver and gives the impression of a dog who really enjoys peaceful, shared walks. He is a companion with whom you can simply go forward and catch your breath. Amor, like most dogs, needs time, patience and a gentle approach to trust — but when he does, his eyes show great sensitivity and a need for closeness. And his gaze... is truly unique. Deep, mesmerizing, as if it holds the entire story that he cannot tell with words. We know he lived with cats, which gives hope for peaceful relationships also in a home with feline companions. With proper introduction, he can get along with female dogs. Due to his size, we do not recommend Amora for a home with small children — he would probably find his best match with adults or in a quiet family that respects his boundaries. Amor is a dog who doesn't impose himself, doesn't cause chaos. He waits. Quietly. With hope that once again he will be someone's dog — the one and only, chosen for better or for worse.

PL·Show original

About Amor

What life with Amor looks like

Amor is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
