Amy

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 5 years

Amy is a charming Chihuahua lady of 5 years (as of 04/2023). She comes from the home of a loving owner and is the embodiment of an ideal beginner dog (if one knows the peculiarities of small dogs). For our handbag expenses I write the texts with a light heart. Often they are rehomed within a very short time and can start a beautiful new life, but in Amy's case it's unfortunately a bit different. Amy has atrophy of the hind limbs and therefore moves very awkwardly. She is very light and can also be easily carried by seniors and children, but that is not necessary at all, because even though Amy's movement seems uncoordinated, the little lady has no pain. Our princess does not need any medication and can lead a completely normal dog life - but according to experience, even the smallest disabled dogs in animal protection remain much longer in the animal shelter than their healthy companions. Since our friends in Spain know this and Amy should definitely not move into an overcrowded animal shelter, the little heartbreaker is waiting for a qualified foster family who can look beyond her physical shortcomings and would like to give her a new home. Amy is certainly far from being old at five years. She has successfully navigated the cliffs of puppyhood and adolescence. She is open and sociable, makes friends quickly and is the perfect decoration on any couch. Outside, our mini truffle is playful and curious. She joyfully accompanies her foster parents on walks and is a favorite of the neighborhood. If you are able to see the wonderful dog in Amy, if you are ready to lose your heart to our little girl, and if you are a creative person who thinks solution-oriented and creates ways for Amy where others only see problems, then we look forward to hearing from you soon - Amy is already packed and excited to start her journey to great happiness.

DE·Show original

About Amy

What life with Amy looks like

Amy is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
