OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA The story of Angelo: Angelo was found in 2023 in the north of the Greek island of Zakynthos. His condition moved several volunteers to tears; his collar had completely grown into his neck, and his neck was wide open and raw. Angelo had most likely been kept on a chain since he was a puppy, and his collar was never replaced or enlarged. Angelo was admitted to the veterinarian's clinic (see last photo). His wounds were cleaned and stitched. The scar is still slightly visible on his throat and neck. Afterwards he had to wear a cone for a while. The foster family where he stayed to recover reported that he underwent everything calmly and gently, as if he sensed that his better life had now begun. Once he had fully recovered, he went to the shelter of Zante Strays, where he has now been waiting for quite some time. Recently, Angelo had to go under the knife again: he had a fatty lump on his chest, and it turned out to contain a few bad cells. The lump was removed entirely, and to be safe, biopsies were also taken, including from the lymph nodes in his armpits. All results were perfect, with no abnormal cells at all. So Angelo is ready for his next step: finding a golden basket in the Netherlands or Belgium. Angelo weighs about 20 kilos and has turned 6 years old. Angelo is truly a wonder dog. Despite everything he has been through, he is still a cheerful and enthusiastic little guy. Our volunteers recently met him, and he greeted everyone in a friendly and sociable way. They also went for walks with him, and he did very well. How much he enjoyed it! Angelo loves human company, and he also responded very well to the dogs he met along the way. Still, we would prefer to place him as the only dog, as we feel that is best for him.

About Angelo

What life with Angelo looks like

Angelo is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Stichting Wereldhonden in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Angelo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Angelo?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Wereldhonden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Angelo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Angelo if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Wereldhonden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Angelo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Angelo isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Wereldhonden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Angelo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
