Adopt Annie

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Annie, Love and patience are the key to success. Annie did not make it easy for the animal protectors on Aegina. She lived as a stray on the island. For several weeks, they tried to catch Annie along with her children Steffie and Artemis, without success. The distrust and fear of humans ran too deep. What must have been done to poor Annie, how cruelly must she have been treated, that there was no more trust left in her? Yet patience and persistence paid off. Eventually, Annie could be caught along with her children. From then on, the animal shelter became her home. At first, Annie could not hide her disgust for humans. She would not be touched, even showed her beautiful teeth when approached. At that time, no one really believed that Annie would one day look for a family. Yet, as often, the staff at Animal Protection performed true miracles. The magic words are simply love and patience. Annie has now been at the animal shelter for over 6 months and is making great progress. She is gaining trust, allowing the closeness of people and even allowing cuddles from people she knows. And even better, Annie is in love. She has found her life partner in Aiko. With him, the world is no longer so dangerous; he protects her and gives her back self-confidence. Aiko is Annie's great hero. They share a cage and spend their days together. They laugh and play and snuggle close to each other at night. Here, Annie's true nature is now revealed. She is cheerful, playful, and very friendly with her fellow animals. Even though Annie has made great progress, there is a risk of old patterns resurfacing with a move. She needs experienced people who understand shy dogs and give her the time she needs. It would also be advantageous to have a confident only dog who could protect Annie as Aiko currently does. Naturally, our hearts hurt when we think about separating Annie and Aiko. They are truly a wonderful couple. Therefore, it would be like a lottery win for both if they could find a home together. In that case, the adjustment period would certainly be the easiest.

About Annie

What life with Annie looks like

Annie is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Annie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Annie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Annie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Annie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Annie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Annie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina early rather than rehoming privately; they know Annie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
