Anton

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

adoption requirements adoption process Now Anton has found his people! His story: Anton, a beautiful large mixed breed of herding dog, is looking for a new family! Anton is a great boy! He is currently around 4 years old. At around 70 cm, he is a striking presence. He gets along well with his fellow animals. With strangers, he shows breed-specific initial reserve. Once his trust is won, he becomes a quiet, friendly companion. We unfortunately cannot test his interaction with cats. Children should be old enough and have a responsible and steady relationship with dogs. We assume that Anton is a mixed breed that will bring herding traits that will certainly show up when he settles into his new home. It would be great if his new owners have an enclosed yard or a farm. He is not suitable for an apartment in the city. Herding dogs are independent personalities that require an owner with consistency and empathy and the ability to deal with an intelligent, independent-minded dog. But they bring wonderful qualities. People who already have experience with herding dogs don't want any other breeds, as they are despite their thick skulls very loyal and faithful companions. Anton has unfortunately grown up in the shelter and is not familiar with the structured life of a home. This means that he doesn't know things like indoor cleanliness, walking on a leash, etc. We are convinced, however, that Anton can overcome any obstacle with experienced and steady people who can give him a lot of understanding and love. Our Anton travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated to his new home. He will bring his EU pet passport with him after a positive assessment. Many thanks to Sina W.! You gave Anton his name and thus his identity! A big thank you also goes to Angela S., who took on a monthly sponsorship for Anton. As of: 21.04.

Vielen Dank an Sina W.! Stand: 21.04.2025

About Anton

What life with Anton looks like

Anton is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Anton, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Anton?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Anton on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Anton if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Anton already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Anton isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Anton and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
