Adopt Apollo

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Apollo has grown into a stylish boy with a constant sparkle in his eyes. He is a happy and friendly lad who thinks it’s fun to play and chase. He also loves his walks and not least to explore the surroundings on his own with his nose. He is curious and interested in his environment and will gladly make contact with the staff when they are nearby, showing them immediately how much he likes them. He is attentive and the staff sees him as very quick-minded. Clear on- and off-switch – bus and play – and then a nice and relaxed nap in the sun. Apollo has undergone surgery for hip dysplasia and is still under long-term rehabilitation – this must be taken into consideration regarding activity. Apollo lives today with his brothers Adone and Ulisse. They have a wonderful sibling relationship where no one takes up more space than the others. Apollo also has a great interest in getting to know other sweet dogs, but they must be sweet and polite – no bratties. He has a calm and clear dog language and is eager to make a good impression. He plays happily with the playpark friends and is a popular companion. He has not yet met any cats. To our greatest delight, we are now looking for a safe and loving home where he is welcomed with open arms. The home should be a bit quieter located and Apollo wishes for his own patch / garden where he can “chill”. You should as a new mate / house parent also have a calm lifestyle at home – while you definitely should enjoy nature as this boy loves to discover among stones and tufts. He would gladly share his home with a safe and sweet doggy companion – who can then act as a mentor in all the new things. Important to remember – Apollo has, like most of our dogs, grown up behind protective walls. He therefore must never be pressured where he feels insecure and must be allowed to decide when it’s time for different steps – which should be richly rewarded. BackgroundOnly 5-6 weeks old, just before the icy New Year, Apollo and his siblings Adone, Eneas, Ulisse, and Odino avoided death.

About Apollo

What life with Apollo looks like

Apollo is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundhjälpen in Stockholm.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Apollo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Apollo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundhjälpen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Apollo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Apollo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundhjälpen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Apollo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Apollo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundhjälpen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Apollo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
