Apolo &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Apolo now lives in 55765 Birkenfeld. All the best, Apolo. Heartfelt thanks to the G family. If one were to describe Apolo in the shortest possible terms, the phrase "a soul of a dog" would fit him perfectly. Although this handsome Mastin-Pointer mix is only one year old (as of July 2024), one gets the feeling that he has seen a lot (perhaps too much), knows what it means to struggle from one day to the next, knows what it means to fight, but also to heal, forgive, and to love like no other. Apolo has been in the care of ArcoNatura since March 2024. He was found by one of the animal welfare workers by the roadside. Clearly, he was hit by a car while crossing the road, and his condition suggested that he had been dragged for quite a distance. Since Apolo was in unimaginable pain and it wasn't a Chihuahua, his rescuer contacted colleagues from ArcoNatura, who immediately rushed to the accident site to help transport the injured male dogs to the animal clinic. Apolo had to be very brave, as he had broken his upper thigh. The operation went very well, and as a patient, Apolo behaved impeccably. Soon, he was able to move into the animal shelter. With Apolo's arrival, our friends thought that the quiet, tender powerhouse would soon turn into a lively teenager, but Apolo remained calm, thoughtful, and also in his interactions with other dogs, sensitive and careful. Although our friends have known him for several months, it still remains to be seen how Apolo will develop in his own family. He will never be a wild springer who joyfully knocks over everything that gets in his way, but we could easily imagine that he wants to make up for his lost childhood and discover his inner child. After all, Apolo is largely a Spanish herding dog, and most owners of these beauties (including me) report that these special four-legged friends tend to retain the temperament of a puppy until they are fourteen years old. On the other hand, of course, there is the inherent watchfulness of the breed, the unyielding will to protect the family (which includes small pets and indoor plants), and the total devotion to the most important people in life. Even though one can't yet see much of it, Apolo is still very young and is just beginning to discover that he still has many career opportunities. So, if someone falls in love with our handsome model athlete, they should also bring a lot of humor, flexibility, and not least, knowledge of the breed (which can be acquired in HSH-savvy dog schools). A herding dog is always associated with a lot of responsibility—and a lot of love, tenderness, loyalty, and the promise that you can't have a purer and more open heart by your side.

Apolo lebt jetzt in 55765 Birkenfeld. Alles Gute, Apolo.

About Apolo &#8211

What life with Apolo &#8211 looks like

Apolo &#8211 is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Apolo &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Apolo &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Apolo &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Apolo &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Apolo &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Apolo &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Apolo &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
