Adopt Ares

Male · Senior · 11 years

Pitbull (Listenhund) neutered male dog, born 2015 | Height: 55cm | Weight: ca. 35kg Children: no | Cats: no | Dogs: conditionally vaccinated | microchipped, available for adoption This animal can be adopted if there is suitable space and after sufficient getting-to-know each other. » NOE Hundehaltegesetz & Sachkundeverordnung » In April 2016, a beautiful found dog was brought to our animal shelter. He was microchipped and registered in Hungary under the name "Ares". Unfortunately, no owner could be found, and so we are searching for a new home for the Listenhund. "Ares" is a very active and strong male dog who has a preference for toys. He has already been rehomed twice but always came back to us because the supposedly new owners were not a match for him. "Ares" is compatible with other dogs but is very wild and full of energy. "Ares" is generally often boisterous and cannot fully gauge his strength. Nose and head work are very important for his exertion. "Ares" needs a home with breed enthusiasts, people with a lot of patience and endurance. "Ares" loves car rides and enjoys going on excursions with his people. In April 2022, during a veterinary examination, a small mass was found on his hip, which was removed and sent to the lab. It turned out to be a Grade 2 mast cell tumor. Fortunately, no metastases are currently present, and "Ares" shows fit and lively behavior. "Ares" is not a dog for beginners! This shelter animal has been with us in the animal shelter for a long time and is unfortunately only difficult to place due to his history. We are therefore very happy to have PATEN.

About Ares

What life with Ares looks like

Ares is a senior cat waiting at Tierheim Dechanthof in Mistelbach.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ares, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ares?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dechanthof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ares on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ares if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dechanthof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ares already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ares isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dechanthof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ares and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
