Arthur

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Young · 2 years

Arthur is confident and social when meeting other dogs and enjoys playful, rough-and-tumble interactions. He could potentially live with another well-matched dog of a similar size and play style, subject to successful introductions at the centre (female dogs would need to be neutered). Arthur cannot live with cats or small furries. He could live with secondary school-aged children who are comfortable around bull breeds and understand his enthusiastic nature and play style. Arthur eats both his breakfast and dinner well and has lovely manners when taking treats. Sweet, affectionate, and full of fun, Arthur is looking for a family who will embrace his playful character, continue to guide him with positive training, and give him all the love and attention he deserves. Arthur is a handsome 2-year-old boy with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Friendly, affectionate, and always ready for a fuss or cuddle, Arthur loves meeting new people and thrives on attention from his handlers. He is a medium-energy dog who would suit an active family willing to continue his training and provide plenty of companionship. Arthur is very excitable and can be a little "pingy" at times, but he has a good understanding of basic commands. He is highly food-motivated, takes treats gently, and enjoys learning, making further training both rewarding and enjoyable. Arthur loves his toys, especially stuffed toys, and will happily spend time running, chasing, and playing. As he is not used to being left alone and we have no history for Arthur, any time spent by himself will need to be built up gradually in his new home while he settles.

About Arthur

What life with Arthur looks like

Arthur is a large young adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Basildon in Wickford.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arthur, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arthur?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Basildon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arthur on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arthur if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Basildon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arthur already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arthur isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Basildon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arthur and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
