Lassie

Rhodesian Ridgeback · Female · Puppy · 2 months

These pups will not be rehomed together but are looking for a home with a resident calm (neutered and fully vaccinated) dog that can help show them how to be a dog and guide them as they navigate the world. They can live with primary school-aged children who are comfortable around large breed dogs and understand normal puppy behaviours such as play and mouthing. As they are expected to grow into large dogs, they will require moderate daily exercise when fully mature, along with ongoing training, socialisation and guidance. They could potentially live with a dog savvy cat and currently cannot be left alone initially, and any time spent alone will need to be introduced gradually as they grow older. Their new owners will need to be calm, patient and committed to helping them continue to develop into confident, well-rounded adult dogs, understanding that their difficult start in life means they may need a little extra support and reassurance along the way. Lassie, Annie and Rin Tin Tin are three delightful 2-month-old puppies looking for loving forever homes. They are friendly, playful pups who enjoy meeting new people and are beginning to let their wonderful personalities shine through. Lassie is the cheekiest and funniest little girl and along with her brother and sister this trio of fun are always finding ways to make everyone smile. All three puppies have had a very unsettled and challenging start to life, spending a considerable amount of time at the vets due to illness and difficulties with eating and gaining weight. Despite this, they have shown incredible resilience and have overcome every obstacle, growing into happy, thriving puppies with bright futures ahead of them.

About Lassie

What life with Lassie looks like

Lassie is a large puppy/kitten rhodesian ridgeback dog waiting at Dogs Trust Basildon in Wickford.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lassie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lassie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Basildon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lassie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lassie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Basildon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lassie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lassie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Basildon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lassie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
