Arun

Podenco · Male · Young · 2 years

Triple A Benelux Input 23 April 2026: Arun is truly a wonderful Podenco Ibicenco who arrived at our shelter almost starving at the end of the hunting season. "Arun" means "dawn and sun", which together stand for "the coming of the day". This name fits him perfectly, because who wouldn't want to wake up with this sweetie by their side. Arun is calm and quiet by nature. He doesn't bark, hardly runs, and doesn't jump up suddenly. He moves slowly and carefully and remains alert. Despite being fearful in certain situations, he is not afraid of people. Volunteers he knows a little are allowed to touch and pet him. Quick, abrupt and hectic movements still seem exciting to Arun and he can sometimes be startled by them. With people he trusts, he walks calmly on a leash. Now that he is living with other dogs, he is coming out of his shell more quickly. He loves having several dogs around him. That was also the first time we saw Arun running happily with a tail moving in all directions from joy. Arun's group currently consists of another Podenco and a Mastin. For Arun we are looking for a home close to nature, not in a city, and preferably where another dog is already waiting for him. We suspect he has never lived in a house before, and therefore will greatly benefit from outdoor space and not being restricted to indoor life in an apartment.

About Arun

What life with Arun looks like

Arun is a young adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arun, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arun?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arun on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arun if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arun already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arun isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arun and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
