Astoria

German Shepherd · Female

Astoria ID No.: 1042505 Breed: German Shepherd mix Age: *approx. 09/2020 Gender: female Shoulder height: approx. 61 cm Neutered/Spayed: Yes Location: Marbella (Spain) Inquiry form Astoria – cheerful female German Shepherd with an explorer’s spirit seeks a loving home Astoria (*approx. 09/2020, approx. 61 cm shoulder height) was found together with her male German Shepherd friend Lennart on the boulevard in Marbella. Both were wearing collars and were unneutered. It is suspected that they previously belonged to a traveling group of people, possibly a nomadic community. Whatever her life was like before – Astoria has retained her open, joyful nature. Astoria is an exceptionally cheerful, curious, and adventurous female dog who loves people above all else. As soon as she sees a person, her tail starts wagging nonstop. She seeks closeness, attention, and positive interaction, and thoroughly enjoys every bit of friendly affection. Although she likely hasn’t had much leash experience, Astoria surprisingly walks very well on a leash. She stays oriented toward her human, adjusts to their pace, and responds well to gentle guidance. Her physical appearance is equally impressive: she has a beautiful coat, a straight, strong back, and currently shows no signs of hip or joint issues—something unfortunately common in German Shepherds. In temperament, Astoria is friendly, soft-natured, and rather submissive, especially around her male companion Lennart. The two can be rehomed together or separately. Astoria can live either as a single dog (with regular social contact to other dogs) or alongside a confident male dog. She hasn’t yet been specifically tested with female dogs, but has always appeared calm and peaceful when passing them by. Astoria has had little to no exposure to basic commands or focused training so far. She would therefore greatly appreciate people who enjoy playfully introducing her to learning—whether through little tricks, basic obedience, or even some agility. She brings curiosity, motivation, and a genuine joy in working together. Astoria is looking for a home where she’ll be supported both physically and mentally—and, above all, loved. Astoria is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and holds an EU pet passport. For travel arrangements, she has been tested for Mediterranean diseases and has been dewormed and treated for fleas. About Astoria

What life with Astoria looks like

Astoria is a adult german shepherd dog waiting at Helfende Hände e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Astoria, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Astoria?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Helfende Hände e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Astoria on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Astoria if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Helfende Hände e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Astoria already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Astoria isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Helfende Hände e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Astoria and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
