Astrid

Podenco · Female · Puppy · 2 months

Astrid and her brother Alf were born at the Tenerife animal shelter. Their mother, Aennie, was found in the mountains with what we think was a son of hers. Aennie had only three legs, it seems she had been stuck in a trap and never helped. Once with us, she quickly came to rest and we saw an incredibly sweet, affectionate and gentle dog. A unique soft character and a look... where you immediately fell in love. When her belly began to grow faster and we were at the DA for her leg, we got a double surprise, literally! Aennie was heavily pregnant with two puppies! They were born on March 15, 2026 and were named Astrid and Alf. Astrid is a beautiful podenco girl. With the soft and affectionate character of her mother Aennie. She is cheerful and especially curious in life, is not afraid and enjoys attention enormously. Recently, she has been walking with us during daily walks and also to the large playground where she can run loose. She loves that! This sweet girl is very curious and people-oriented. She understood the leash quickly, she walks nicely and enthusiastically and pays close attention. A pleasure to walk with. Astrid has grown up and been raised by her brother and mother, she loves people, has no traumas and can also get along well with both her mates (young and old, large and small) and with the neighbor dogs that we meet during the walks around the shelter. Everyone is greeted cheerfully but with respect, very smart for such a young girl! We hope that this treasure of a dog will be noticed soon so that she can grow further, literally and figuratively, at the side of her own person who she can be faithful to forever. Her real dog life has yet to begin and despite the fact that she grew up in a shelter, she has known stability, security and love from day one. The misery her mother experienced has been spared her and that can be seen in her sweet and affectionate way of being with everyone. An asset in the house... and heart! Astrid is healthy, vaccinated and tested negative for Leishmania, Erlichia, Anaplasma and Filaria. Her suitcase is ready and she can't wait to discover that beautiful promised dog life we talk about so often with her!

About Astrid

What life with Astrid looks like

Astrid is a small puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Astrid, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Astrid?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Astrid on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Astrid if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Astrid already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Astrid isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Astrid and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
