Atze

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 2 months

Atze is a true doggy, for whom almost everything is still new. What is exciting today can be a little scary tomorrow - and the day after can be just a normal part of life. Atze is one of eight siblings, whose lives hung by a thread from the start. Their mom, Novia, was presented at a spay/neuter campaign in Bologa, without anyone mentioning that there were ten few-day-old pups at home who depended on her. It wasn't until hours later that the babies were brought in a box. Novia herself was completely exhausted, severely underweight and dehydrated. There wasn't enough milk for ten pups. The animal rescuers fed them and looked for a solution. It was at this point that Fiene came to the campaign with her two own pups. She took several of Novia's babies and raised them with her own. Two siblings died despite all efforts. Atze and seven other pups made it - and from the tiny, helpless baby, a young dog is gradually becoming. Like any pup, Atze still needs to learn a lot. Housebreaking, walking on a leash, car travel, household noises, visitors, staying calm and even being alone for a short time are not things that a young dog automatically masters. All of this should be built up step by step and with patience. Just as important are sufficient sleep and rest periods - a pup doesn't need to be constantly occupied. And puberty will come at some point. Then, previously learned things can suddenly be called into question again, concentration can fluctuate, and smells or other dogs can suddenly be more interesting than the person on the other end of the leash. This is a normal part of development. Loving consistency, clear structures and a bit of humor help through this time much better than pressure or punishment. Optically, Atze could have a share of a livestock guardian dog. Livestock guardian dogs were bred to act independently, observe their surroundings attentively and make decisions without constant human guidance. With increasing age, independence, vigilance and territorial behavior can become more pronounced. This is not "disobedience", but can be part of their original task. For Atze, we therefore wish for people who will deal with livestock guardian dogs and their needs before adoption. A rather rural home with enough space and ideally a securely fenced garden would be particularly nice. Important are clear, fair rules, peace, patience and an upbringing without harshness. A positively working dog school, preferably with experience with livestock guardian dogs or their mixes, can meaningfully accompany the development. Since Atze is still growing, we cannot reliably predict his later size and final development. Therefore, whoever decides for him should not only see the cute pup, but also the adult dog that he will become. Atze is chipped, vaccinated, dewormed and flea-free. He is ready to travel at the end of October and travels with his EU pet passport. He will be placed after a positive pre-check, with a protection contract and against a deposit. We would also be happy about a suitable foster home for him. Many thanks to the namesake Michaela, who gave Atze his name. Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen!

About Atze

What life with Atze looks like

Atze is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Atze, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Atze?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Atze on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Atze if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Atze already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Atze isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Atze and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
